What Can SpeechGrader Do?
SpeechGrader™ is a powerful Microsoft® Excel®-based software program designed by a speech instructor for speech communication, public speaking, and homiletics instructors. Anyone who teaches public speaking--middle and high school teachers, college and seminary professors—and gives speakers written feedback can benefit from using SpeechGrader!
SpeechGrader Features:
*Assess up to 42 students on up to 29 separate grading criteria (such as Introduction, Transitions, and Eye Contact) that you can customize!
*Grade up to six speeches per student, depending on the version purchased
*House these 29 criteria in up to 10 larger categories to which you assign changeable grade weights (LG version) or individual point scores (PB version)
*Time presentations with SpeechGrader’s built-in stopwatch
*Assign an optional time penalty for students who go above or below a time limit
*Assign a “grace window” of time where no penalty is assessed (e.g., 15 seconds over or under limit)
*Assess speeches based on changeable point values (e.g., a speech is worth 30 points, 100 points, and so on) (LG version); point totals are automatically calculated in the PB version
*Track individual student progress from speech to speech, quickly noting students’ individual strength points and challenge areas
*Assess class strengths and weaknesses with a class statistical analysis page including low grade per criterion, high grade, mean, median, mode, and ±1 standard deviation from the mean
*Compare an individual student with the class average score! (New for 2.1)
*Tailor your pedagogy toward a specific class's needed area of improvement
*See class criterion and category grades on a box-plot-type graph (LG version) showing low and high grade of criterion, with mean and ±1 standard deviation from the mean; PB version has a line graph with ranges for standard deviations
*Assess students’ presentations on customizable criteria with easy to use drop-down grade menus (100, A+, A, A-, B+, …) (LG version); use a points range in the PB version (e.g., "Eye Contact" is worth 4 points; "Gestures" is worth 6 points, etc.)
*Assign a changeable grade scale that works best for you (e.g., A+ = 97, A = 95, A- = 93, …) *Assign pre-programmed and customizable written feedback to display based on student grade for a given criterion (For example, an “A” grade for the criterion “Eye Contact” can be programmed to automatically generate the comment, “Excellent eye contact! You did a fantastic job making eye contact with everyone in the room! Bravo!”) (LG version); PB version uses the same idea, only feedback comments are tied to individual points (e.g., a "5" on a 0-5 scale for "Eye Contact" can be programmed, "Excellent eye contact! You did..." etc.)
*Or choose from a drop-down list of customizable feedback options for a given criterion
*Or simply type in individual feedback!
*Have students' speech grades input into an attached gradebook automatically—no more double recording of grades!
*Instantaneously print out the evaluation form to hand to the student when they finish speaking!
And much more!
